Founder and President of Victory Flows

Cheryl HoodPeople often ask me if I have a child or family member with a disability. I do not. But what I have is a God- given passion and spiritual gift for serving those persons affected by disabilities and their families. It runs through every thread of my being, and I am most happy and at peace when I am in the company of this community.

For over 25 years I worked in the ad business, eventually opening my own full service ad agency in 2001 called C2 (Christ 2) Strategies. Prior to opening the agency in 2001, I attended a life skills workshop that radically changed my life. It was here where I accepted Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior. In so doing, it reignited my passion to do more. Owning my business allowed me the opportunity to serve and volunteer in the areas of my passion.

This flexibility led me to serve at Joni and Friends, where I have been very involved for the past 15 years. About eight years ago, I noticed at these camps that while the week was glorious and fun for the families, it was only once a year. Many would go back to homes of isolation, not be involved in church due to their child’s disability, and the families would struggle with the challenges of daily life. I felt there had to be more.

And here we are today. In July 2011 I quit my job, sold my house, and got rid of my convertible. All to follow God’s leading me into the formation of Victory Flows to host more frequent programs and services for families and individuals affected by disabilities.

I am also the proud mother of two children, Ryan, who works for Fidelity Investments, and my daughter Andi, who is employed by Baylor All Saints in Fort Worth as a NICU nurse. I also have an amazing granddaughter who is 1 year old and a grandson on the way! I love being a grandma!

I feel so blessed being able to serve such an amazing community and look forward to what God has in store for the future!

About 27 years ago my husband and I were invited to the home of Charlie and Aggie Johnson to meet Joni Erickson. How thrilled I was to meet this remarkable lady.  I was touched by her candor, courage and upbeat attitude in spite of her obvious challenges. She spoke of the vision she had of opening an office in Dallas in order to minister to families in the North Texas area. She gave us her book titled “Heaven”, and signed it with a pencil in her teeth. I was so touched.  She inspired confidence in all who attended. About 3…

Steve Wade

Board Member
Steve is the newest addition to the Victory Flows board. Chicago born and Texas bred, his passion for the radical inclusion of all people developed when his family first moved to Texas. Steve spent his childhood with a close circle of neighborhood friends - one of whom happened to live with a wheelchair. The limited mobility of this one friend was nothing awkward; it was simply accepted as a "fact of life." It became natural to modify all activities to accommodate everyone present. Growing up in this environment led to Steve naturally developing a friendship with a young man from…

Board Member and Treasurer
Hi! I’m Chris Schechner, a board member of Victory Flows. I am an art director, graphic designer and illustrator. I also happen to be disabled and use a wheelchair to get around. In 1971, when I was home in Michigan, I crashed into the bottom of a swimming pool during a dive and suffered a spinal cord injury. I feel that God has gifted me with an opportunity to use this situation by giving me a desire to encourage those with disabilities to achieve all they can, using the gifts that God has given them. We all have obstacles and…
